Cucumber has long been used in skincare for its cooling and soothing properties. In fact, placing cucumber slices on the eyes is a popular home remedy to reduce puffiness under the eyes. Its high water content (approximately 96%) also promotes skin hydration when applied topically. No wonder its extract is a popular ingredient in cosmetic products due to its numerous skin-friendly properties.

INCI: Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract

Properties:

  • Has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties (thanks to its component called cucurbitacins) which help lessen redness and itching associated with irritated skin.
  • Has astringent properties which help tone the skin to reduce the appearance of pores and regulate sebum production.
  • Has cooling effect on the skin.
  • Has excellent moisturizing properties due to its high water content.

  • For powdered cucumber extract, dissolve it first in slightly warm water before adding to the cool down phase.
  • Can be combined with aloe vera extract for enhanced hydration and soothing properties.
